FAQ (frequently asked questions)
Q: How do I reset my email password ?
A: If you've forgotten your email password, you can change it from your hosting control panel (cPanel). Your control panel is found at:
http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel.
There is a section that allows you to manage your mailboxes and passwords.
Q: I've forgotten my cPanel password. Can I reset it ?
A: The procedure for resetting a cPanel password is to go to:
http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and when prompted to login, click [cancel].
Next, enter your cPanel login name - this can be found in your account details in the Client Area of our web site.
A confirmation email will be sent to the primary contact email address for your domain. In some cases, this may be the Web Host Manager or another admin person who will be happy to deal with the request.
Q: I've forgotten my login for the Verinote Client pages, and it says my email does not exist.
A: Please email the webmaster to have your account details reviewed and updated if necessary.
Q: How do I prevent Spam ?
A: Spam, or unsolicited email, is a problem for everyone. The Internet community have been forced to implement a number of measures in the fight against the spammers. We support and implement three of the main counter-measures:
Global Block Lists (or Black Lists)
About 90-95% of incoming email to our servers is blocked before it ever gets to your Inbox. This is because the sender's address is on a global spam block list. The two block lists we use are zen.spamhaus.org and rbl.spamcop.net. You can find out more about them using Google.
Spam Filtering
We use Spam Assassin. Our experience suggests that Spam Assassin is about 90% efficient at detecting incoming Spam email.
Q: The email I sent went into someone's spam folder. How do I stop that happening ?
A: We have no control over recipient mail systems so we can never guarantee that an email you send will not be tagged as spam. Saying that, we use two of the most popular methods of identifying our clients as legitimate senders. All our client accounts have SPF records to indicate that they originated from our mail system and not someone else's. If you think someone is using your email address to send out spam ('spoofing') then it is the fault of the recipient mail system for accepting it. SPF tells the recipient system that if the the origin of the message is a system other than our mail system, then it is not genuine.
We also use Domain Keys to identify you. Many (but not all) recipient systems now use the DKIM system. You can think of it as a special kind of signature that says 'this email came from me'.
If you are concerned that DKIM is not set up properly on your account, please contact us
Q: I keep getting a message with the subject "lfd on ds.verinote.net: [email address] blocked for pop3d access"
A: As a security measure, our mail server monitors all login attempts. If your attempt to login fails (normally because of an incorrect password or user name/email address) more than ten times in succession, you will be prevented from logging in for the next ten minutes.
In addition, the mail server also records the number of logins per hour for each account. It will limit accounts to a maximum of 60 logins per hour, or one per minute. This is a security measure to prevent "connection floods" which is a method used by hackers to disrupt mail services. If you receive emails with the subject "blocked for access", have a look at the detail and check whether you've exceeded the maximum logins per hour.
To prevent this happening, adjust the settings in your mail client software so that you send/receive at a minimum of 5-minute intervals.
